Be Scarf-a-liscious

In Cooking & Crafting by Jen

Every year in October fleece goes on sale and when it does I grab up oodles in preparation for the Holiday season.

Today I want to show you one of the very simple and easy gifts my children make as Holiday presents for their teachers and friends. It is actually something they look forward to doing each year and as far as gifts go it’s both thoughtful and economical. Can’t beat that! Last year I even made some super cute scarves for my Daisy Girl Scouts as Holiday gifts from fleece with Daisies on it. I loved seeing them wear that scarf all through the winter!

* When you pick up the fabric keep in mind long vertical lines or patterns make for better scarves, just because no one wants to be cutting the cute patterns in half to make the scarf. Several yards of fabric will also yield quite a few scarves.

To make your own fleece scarf is about the easiest thing ever. You just need a really good pair or scissors and a tape measure.

1. For the height I usually have each scarf be about  50 inches to 56 inches. You can shorten it as necessary, but you want to be able to tie it at the neck or wrap it over your shoulder.

2. For the width 7 to 8 inches is usually good, but if there is a pattern already on the scarf you can just cut and follow it and make a wider or skinnier scarf.

3. Once you have mapped out where you will do your cuts and have cut out your long scarf sections you can work on the tasseling on the bottom.

You can see in the following picture, that my children have done the cutting and the length and width of the tassels is really up to you (and them).

My children prefer to have the ends untied, but you can also tie the ends of the scarf with a simple knot to make a chunkier tasseled fringe.

Now, make sure you don’t miss those October fleece sales!

Stay Happy! Stay Informed!

Love,

Jen
