Orange Creamsicle Sugar Cookie

In Cooking & Crafting by Jen

There’s something about orange creamsicle flavors that instantly feels like summer. The combination of bright, citrusy orange and sweet vanilla delivers the taste of warm afternoons, frozen treats, and sunshine-filled days in every bite. That nostalgic flavor is exactly what inspired these Orange Creamsicle Sugar Cookies—and today, I am sharing the recipe with you!

Before we get to the recipe, I have to tell you a little backstory about these cookies.

When I got married, my mother-in-law gave me a cookbook created by the young women of the Ivins, Utah, Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This cookbook is FILLED with treasured family recipes, and was compiled and sold as a fundraiser for girls’ camp. Over the years, I’ve made countless recipes from its pages, and these sugar cookies quickly rose to the top and have become a beloved family favorite.

I have no idea who Juliana is, other than knowing she submitted the original recipe. But Juliana, if you’re out there, thank you. An entire generation of my family has enjoyed your cookies, which have appeared at countless family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations. I hope the girls’ camp (2 decades ago) was a huge success—and a lot of fun!

Now back to the cookies!

For this version, I gave Juliana’s classic sugar cookies a summery twist with plenty of orange flavor and a hint of vanilla in the frosting to capture that nostalgic creamsicle flavor. The result is a soft, buttery cookie that’s bursting with bright citrus and just the right amount of sweetness.

Starting with store-bought frosting made this recipe incredibly easy, and a few simple additions transformed it into a creamy, dreamy creamsicle topping. The orange-vanilla combination tastes like summer in every bite, and no one will believe how effortless it was to make.
