Hi friends! Have you ever heard of the keto diet?
The ketogenic diet is a very low-carbohydrate, high-fat way of eating, similar to Atkins and other low-carb plans. By reducing carbs and replacing them with fat, the body enters a metabolic state called ketosis, where it burns fat for energy and produces ketones that can fuel the brain.
I’ve basically lived a keto lifestyle most of my life because bread just doesn’t agree with me. I don’t have celiac disease, but bread and I do not mix well.
During Christmas this year, I ate a lot more bread than usual and ended up feeling swollen, inflamed, and uncomfortable. So on January 1, I went back to my regular keto routine—with a few modifications. I still eat healthy carbs like oranges, apples, carrots, and more; I just avoid bread and most processed sugars. So far, I’ve lost about 7 pounds, my tummy is much happier, I’m sleeping better, and my feet and ankles feel less swollen.
One important thing about keto: you must eat. This isn’t about skipping meals or starving yourself—it’s about planning ahead and fueling your body properly with nutritious foods.
Several friends have asked what my “secret” is to staying on keto, and honestly, there isn’t one. I simply plan my meals ahead of time, so I always have something healthy and delicious ready to eat.
See? No big secret!
To help with that, I created a super easy weekly meal-planning calendar to help you map out what you’ll eat each week. Use it when you shop, and you’ll be all set!
