Good Friday April 10th Worldwide Day of Fasting

In Motherhood, Parenting by Jen

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This past weekend we participated in General Conference. It is a 2 day conference, where through the power of the internet and other modern technology, we can listen to our Prophet and leaders of the Church share messages of hope and peace through Christ, and also ideas for helping each one of us to become better more loving and Christ-like disciples.

The Prophet and President of the Church, Russell M. Nelson is a remarkable man! He is 8o+ years old, and is an inspiration in his energy, depth of love and service. On Sunday morning, he invited members of The Church of Jesus Christ, and even those who are not members to participate in a day of fasting on this upcoming Good Friday April 10th, 2020.

“For all whose health may permit, let us fast, pray, and unite our faith once again,” said President Russell M. Nelson in his Saturday evening general conference address. “Let us prayerfully plead for relief from this global pandemic.

“I invite all, including those not of our faith, to fast and pray on Good Friday, April 10, that the present pandemic may be controlled, caregivers protected, the economy strengthened and life normalized.”

President Nelson taught that a customary fast is two meals or a period of 24 hours.

“But you decide what would constitute a sacrifice for you, as you remember the supreme sacrifice the Savior made for you,” he said. “Let us unite in pleading for healing throughout the world.”

“Good Friday would be the perfect day to have our Heavenly Father and His Son hear us.”

That evening after the announcement, I stumbled on a Facebook page that had just begun on that same day right after the announcement, Worldwide Fast April 10. The page isn’t Church operated, but I have seen people of the Jewish faith, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian and more all committing to fast and join our voices in prayer and supplication on that day. Watching the comments and posts as they come in has been humbling and faith promoting.

As the Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its senior Apostle, President Nelson testifies of an all-knowing, merciful God that offers salvation to all who repent and believe in Him.“So, during times of deep distress, as when illness reaches pandemic proportions, the most natural thing for us to do is to call upon our Heavenly Father and His Son—the Master Healer—to show forth Their marvelous power to bless the people of the earth.”

I would invite all of my friends and readers of whatever faith you may be, to participate in this day of worldwide fasting. I know that there is power in united and dedicated fasting, and have seen the results powerfully in my own life.

Love,

Jen
