This year our family went ALL out for Halloween. Usually I tell my kids to go scrounge around in each other’s closets and figure something out, but not this year! My husband Jen’s Guy and I helped our kids to pull together four pretty awesome costumes. Pictures will be coming to a blog post near you soon. We are fairly proud of ourselves, and one point of pride is a pretty magical Hermione wand that you are never going to guess what we made it from! Here’s my lovely Rebekah to model it. This girl has style.
And a picture of the wand up close doing a little light magic.
Are you ready to see what this wand was made from, because it surely was some magic at work!
Here’s what we used! My husband Jen’s Guy is a computer consultant, and our garage usually houses a variety of interesting and curious computer components. Like this antenna for an old broken modem that I found last week, and with the help of two little magical girls, realized it might be able to become something much more exciting!
Can you believe it?!
Our first step to transition this old antenna into my daughter’s personal wand was to gather the materials.
First, we applied one coat of brown spray paint to both sides of the wand. Making sure to let it dry completely in-between each coat.
The next step was where the real magic took place, with the application of a little metallic gold paint!
Rebekah decided she wanted her own gold design on the “wand” and didn’t want to use any of the real Harry Potter character’s wand types. I think she wanted her wand to “pick” her, and she did a fantastic job!
Now we are all ready for Halloween! Thanks for popping in and best wished for your own happy and spooky time!
Love,
