Welcome to a brand NEW edition of Mommy Reality hosted by

Jen of JENerally Informed and Celeste of Leapfrog and Lipgloss!

If this is your first time hearing about the Mommy Reality Challenge we are so glad you are joining this great community of moms who participate in our bi-weekly challenges that showcase all the fun, crazy, and sometimes overwhelming moments that are in every mom’s life!

Please don’t just read. This is an INTERACTIVE post! Come join in all the fun!

The Rules are Simple!

        1. We will announce the theme.
        2. You will write a post or take a pic, post it to the social media account of your choice with the hashtag #mommyreality and then link it up to this blog post!
        3. Then in two weeks, we will announce our favorites and award a meme to the winner. The winner can then co-host the next challenge with us!

Just a little background on how our challenges are selected- Jen and Celeste take turns writing the post and creating the winning meme from the last challenge.

This time it’s Jen’s turn to write the post and she is writing it with a 100 degree fever, a sick toddler on her lap and a sick 7 year old lounging on the couch.

Huzzah Mommy Reality!

Anyway, we want to give a BIG thank you to everyone for the Mommy Reality “Birthday” wishes we received during this last challenge now that we have achieved the ripe old age of 30 challenges and all!

We especially want to say THANK YOU to everyone who submitted their ‘Dat Look pics and posts for this last challenge. We even had one dad. It was pretty epic!

But, there can only be one winner and the winner of Mommy Reality Challenge #30 is April of Stories of our Boys!

April shared her ‘Dat Look on the days when homeschooling is ruining her life! Here is your meme April and we hope you can join us in 2 weeks as our Mommy Reality Co-host.

You can check out all of the other Mommy Reality memes on on our tumblr page.

We would also be amiss if we didn’t give special props to our first EVER entry from a Dad, Jamie from The Pink Noam who totally NAILED ‘Dat Look.

Thank you to all of the participants of this challenge and special thanks to our fabulous co-host Ray of British Mum USA

Now It’s time for a NEW Mommy Reality Challenge and Co-host!

Now it’s time for a NEW Challenge!

Mommy Reality 31: A Room With A View

When I was younger one of my most favorite romantic movies to watch was A Room With a View.

As only the young can, I would fantasize what the perfect view from my room should be. Would it be Paris, Venice, the woods, the beach?  Over the years my opinion on my favorite view has changed.

Nowadays it seems though that my favorite view is the one right in my own backyard. Because home tends to be where the heart is.

So to open this challenge here is the view from my second story balcony looking out into my backyard. We live right next to a desert and open wash area where there is a whole thriving ecosystem. Not limited to, but including frogs, snakes, lizards, owls, hawks, coyotes and javelinas.

Some nights we can hear the coyotes hunting and their cries are terror inducing! The school my children attend can be seen in the far distance of this picture below and last week as we walked to school a coyote chased us! My son has taken to walking now with a baseball bat. Never a dull moment.

Now It’s your turn to share!

For this challenge we want to see what you see! Snap a pic of your yard or the view from the window that faces your street. Is it snowy where you live, do you live in a urban landscape or is it rural? What is something cool that you see in your day, because we want to see it!

You have 2 weeks to complete this challenge!

You can share what you love in a post or on your favorite social media outlet.

Don’t forget to grab our super-nifty button!

  1. LOL! Can’t believe I won. Can’t believe there’s a giant picture of me looking miserable alll over the internet–that I uploaded myself…. Where is my pride??? I’m just kidding. Thank you so much for the meme and first place. ;) I added a link to Mommy Reality on my blog for all to see. I’ve always been loved the spirit behind Mommy Reality–right up my alley. Does this mean I get to be a guest co-host now–because I’m seriously excited about that!

  2. Right now we’re on our boat and the view is awesome. My favorite view would be of the ocean with hubby and I on the veranda with a cold adult beverage.

    Congratulations to all the winners.

    Have a fabulous day. :)

  3. OH MY GOODNESS! I took a picture of my mommy face and forgot to post it!!! Waaaaaaahhhh! I should still send it and hashtag – you ladies will think I’m a crazy woman! LOL

My bedroom view is pathetic. Although I’ve seen some nice sunrises from my bedroom window (but my view is a whole bunch of townhouses).

    Happy Friday friend!

    1. I just saw it epic! Have to admit, I would stand a little straighter if you directed your look my way. Well done! I am so glad you shared it!

Hey, sunrises are some of the best views ever, no matter what else tries to obstruct it!

Hey send us a picture of what you wish your view was and paste it up on your kitchen window so it can really be what you want your view to be. I used to paste up beach pictures on our windows when we lived in Montana and Utah to block out the grayness :) Silly, but it made me happy!

  4. Welcome to Domestic Geek Girl – yay!
Ok, so javelinas and coyotes? So interesting. Do either of them hurt each other? I would walk with a baseball bat too!
And I still TOTALLY want to come visit, though.

I am sure they do, because javelinas are meaner and stinkier than snot! You can smell them coming from miles away, it’s that bad. I actually like coyotes and like watching them, just not up close.

Yes, you should add us to your fall/winter lineup some year! It is so beautiful right now! Today it is a sunny 78 and I am setting the kiddie pool up outside for the toddler this afternoon :)

  5. Ok so I have been to Arizona on Spring Break and it is so pleasant, and as we went North to Sedona, it got chilly. Where you live have you ANY need for winter clothing???? There is not one piece of white on the ground where you are…. Kinda jealous!!! :)

When it snows, it is like a celebration! My kids are so excited by the once in a blue moon appearance of the white stuff. I try to tell them that they wouldn’t like it so much everyday, but the are young and don’t understand. Sedona is beautiful! It is cooler than Tucson, so it becomes a summer escape to destination when we are melting down here.

  6. I hope you and your littles are feeling better, Jen! Your view… I’m obsessed and quite jealous. I love a good view more than anything. My dream is to retire oceanside :). I could definitely live without the coyote chasing me to school, but otherwise waking up to your view everyday would be fabulous! I’ll have to find a decent view from one of my windows. I don’t have a lot of good choices. My backyard has a rundown swing set and lopsided trampoline. We are kind of the trash of our neighborhood ;).

    1. Author

You trash never! Lopsided trampolines are so much more fun to jump on than just straight up ones!

Hey snap that view, it is all about Mommy Reality. No one noticed the kiddie pool blown into the bushes or the balls and toys strewn throughout my yard, but they are there! Along with the dead bushes that need to be trimmed.

  7. I love your view Jen! I’d love living there, the wildlife would fascinate me and annoy the children as I’d be calling them every two minutes to see something that fascinates me. I’m a bit sad like that.

Getting followed by a coyote certainly beats getting followed by stray dogs….OOOooo, just had a thought. Can you let pets out if there are coyotes roaming the area or can they only go out supervised?….I’d be constantly worried that the dogs would get eaten.

How sad, stray dogs. We would have like 10 of them if that kept happening.

My dog can wander in the yard just fine because she is bigger, but I would never let her wander alone through the desert. Little dogs you have to be careful with even in the yard because of some of the big owls and hawks that could scoop them up!

    1. Wow Jen, your wildlife sounds so much more interesting than ours! Yes, we do get owls, birds of prey, loggerhead turtles and tourists here (monk seals too, although I don’t know anyone who’s spotted one!), all of which fascinate me, but nothing so big we have to worry about small pets….I have to come visit!!!

Thanks Patty and yes we have lived where it snowed! We lived in Montana and Utah. I have to admit though to being done with the snow. Putting potty training toddlers in snow suits is really not my favorite thing. I like to visit cold places once in a while or dream about them in the throes of winter, but there is something about my wild and wooly desert!

  10. I LOVE your view Jen! It reminds me of the view I had from my second floor bedroom when I lived in Tucson. I lived over by the golf course towards Marana about 15 years ago… WOW Hard to believe it’s been that long!

Well, now that I know it doesn’t have to be a view of my bedroom, don’t know why I was thinking that either. Maybe because I have been stuck in here for too long! Who the heck knows what goes through my mind anymore! Hahaha! I am working on my post so I can link-up today. I’ll be back after a while to do just that! I SWEAR I REALLY WILL this time!

Thanks so much for hosting such a fun linky!

    Much love,
